Bukit Sion School, in collaboration with Yayasan BAIK, conducted a scholarship selection event from 27-29 February 2024, providing opportunities for students to study at SIAS University and Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SHUTCM). The event aimed to offer deserving students scholarships and comprehensive support throughout their academic journey. The process included initial placement tests and interviews conducted directly by the representatives of each university. Congratulations to the six students who have been chosen for this opportunity!

Focused on ‘How to enhance a vocal arrangement using music concepts for performance,’ this session offered invaluable insights.

Students delved into music theory, explored career pathways, and honed their vocal arrangement skills. The icebreakers fostered collaboration and created a supportive atmosphere, providing essential industry tips to thrive in the competitive music landscape. Finally, the concept of dynamics, the strategic use of volume changes, was introduced, allowing singers to guide listeners through the emotional journey of the lyrics.

This transformative experience showcased the vibrancy of the music world, providing a platform for skill enhancement. The opportunity to immerse in such a dynamic workshop is deeply appreciated by the students. It not only expanded understanding but also instilled a renewed passion for the craft.

Dr. Wahid and Dr. Inka, addressing crucial aspects of adolescent development. Dr. Wahid shed light on the escalating issue of pornography addiction among teenagers, emphasizing its detrimental effects on mental health and lifestyle.

Simultaneously, Dr. Inka's session navigated the complexities of puberty, highlighting the importance of hormonal shifts in identity formation and emotional intensity. Separate rooms were provided for male and female secondary students, ensuring a conducive environment for open dialogue.

Through these discussions and support, our secondary students are better equipped to navigate puberty with confidence and resilience, embracing self-discovery and growth along the way.

Dr. Sherlene clarified misconceptions about scoliosis, such as the belief that bad posture or heavy backpacks cause it. Surprisingly, she revealed that 80% of scoliosis cases have unknown causes.

The seminar deepened our understanding of scoliosis, its causes, and management, proving both fascinating and informative. It empowered students with valuable insights into the condition's impact and effective handling strategies, making the event immensely beneficial for all attendees.

After navigating through initial applications and rigorous interviews, we rejoiced in our selection and commenced comprehensive training sessions to hone our skills for the grand event. As dusk on March 13 descended upon Singapore, we found ourselves amidst bustling preparations for the conference's commencement.

Our days in Singapore were a whirlwind of activity, from engaging in pre-conference meetings with the Yale secretariat to immersing ourselves in venue setup and familiarizing with conference materials. Throughout the event, Wouter and I dived headfirst into our roles as assistant directors, presiding over councils with diligence and providing guidance to delegates. The camaraderie within the team and the vibrant atmosphere of the conference hall fostered an unforgettable experience.

Amidst intense debates and illuminating speeches, we diligently fulfilled our responsibilities, meticulously noting each delegate's contribution and offering constructive feedback. As the conference drew to a close, we proudly participated in the concluding ceremony, recognizing the outstanding achievements of delegates and bidding farewell to YMUN Singapore 2024. Reflecting on our journey, I realized the invaluable lessons learned, from managerial aptitude to cultural adaptation, marking this experience as a cornerstone of personal growth and development.

Recently, the speaker for Further Education’s assembly was Dr. Asri Kartika Putri, M. Med.Sc, Sp. A, from Pondok Indah Hospital, who spoke about how sugar can affect us in both positive and negative ways.

Although sugar can be a quick and simple source of energy, it can also pose a threat to our health if consumed in excess. Sugar is divided into two categories: good sugar and bad sugar. Good sugar refers to sugar that occurs naturally, typically found in fruits, while bad sugar refers to added sugar, commonly found in processed foods. Therefore, it is advisable to consume naturally occurring sugar. The daily limit for both types of sugar for our health is 25g per day. If we consume too much, it can lead to problems such as unhealthy weight gain, worsened skin conditions, and even severe issues such as heart disease and type-2 diabetes.

A recent workshop hosted by the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) offered participants a fresh perspective on how deeply science is intertwined with global issues. The session was not only informative but also engaging, giving attendees the chance to explore the many types of scientists and the important roles they play in society.

One of the highlights of the workshop was an interactive game that made learning about complex scientific concepts enjoyable. Participants came away with a clearer understanding of how more than 50% of the world’s challenges—like climate change, water security, and poverty—are connected to science.

By the end of the workshop, it was evident just how crucial scientific innovation is in finding solutions to these global problems, leaving attendees inspired and with a greater appreciation for the impact of science on shaping a better future.

On 4 October 2024, the seminar "Keeping Up with Our Tech-Savvy Teens," led by Hugo Indratno, offered valuable advice for parents navigating today’s digital world. The session emphasized fostering open communication and establishing family tech boundaries.

Attendees were encouraged to guide their teens toward responsible online behavior and an understanding of their digital footprint. Key recommendations included creating shared rules, discussing online risks openly, and balancing monitoring with promoting independence, helping children make informed decisions while navigating the digital landscape.

On 14 November 2024, a seminar was held at Bukit Sion Secondary Education, delivered by Dr. Esther Idayanti BSc, MA, addressing LGBTQIA+ topics from religious, social, and scientific perspectives. The seminar explored the LGBTQIA+ acronym, global trends, and its portrayal as both a political and personal issue. It was emphasized that LGBTQIA+ behavior is influenced by external factors, such as family dynamics, social environment, and media exposure, rather than being an innate trait or genetic predisposition.

The seminar examined religious perspectives, including Biblical interpretations, which describe sexuality as created by God for a specific purpose within marriage between a man and a woman. Participants were encouraged to reflect on identity through the lens of faith, challenging societal pressures and self-centered desires. The session concluded with a call to align personal values and actions with Biblical teachings, emphasizing self-denial and commitment to Christ.
